What is fasting and when should it be done? Fasting is an act of not consuming any food or drink for a certain period of time and it can be done at any day or anytime and they do not have any specific duration for fasting. It depends on the level of their abilities to persist at fasting. Fasting have always been related to religious obligation. Some religions that fasting are Muslims and Christians. For Muslims, they have specific duration and time to fast. In a year, they will have to fast for a month during the month of Ramadhan in Islamic calendar. The Muslims have to fast from when the sun has risen until the sun has set. The reason why they fast is not only for medical benefits but they believe that they will be granted good deeds by God. Although some people do not like to fast, they should know that fasting bring benefits to the people who had done it. For some people, fasting is just a waste of time because they do not know the benefits of fasting. One reason for them to say that is because they claim that fasting will only make us feel hungry. From my experience, fasting does bring benefits. During my fasting experience, I can feel that my body is different than usual. With the mean of different I meant by healthier. A benefit that I get from fasting is weight loss. I lost four kilograms when I fast and it feels very amazing. A research claims that fasting help us to lose weight. Kris Gunnars, who is a nutrition researcher with a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine claims in his article that ‘intermittent fasting enhances hormone function to facilitate weight loss. Lower insulin levels, higher growth hormone levels and increased amounts of norepinephrine (noradrenaline) all increase the breakdown of body fat and facilitate its use for energy.
