Is food important for more reasons than nutrition? Well it is hard to argue against the fact that nutrients are the most crucial part of human life, or human existence. Some might say love is the most crucial thing for a human’s existence. To that, I say: good luck loving something without nutrition… Food is the best gift you can bestow on a human. Perhaps second, only to the gift of life your mother bestows upon you. To give someone food, you are saying you want him or her to stay alive, without food he would obviously die.

Perhaps you posit it is an antiquated value that serves no purpose in our modern technological world. Then, why did these practices survive so long through history? We can look back a mere 50 years and see a vast delineation. In the 1950’s, dinnertime was very important in America. Families got together almost every single time to “break bread” and it was a special time for everyone to slow down, reflect not only on their own day. In addition, others experiences through the day. It made a community, and was the meeting spot for that community. No matter how busy you where we can ATLEAST get together for supper. In today’s time, we stop at taco bell on the way home. We MIGHT get enough food for the family, bring it home, and eat it, but most often, every member is more or less on their own. Many teens receive an allowance these days for food since they never eat with their parents and many times alone. Although frequently teens will eat with other teens. I am not saying it is correlative, but perhaps the degradation of the family structure is due (at least in part) to this phenomenon. This would make sense because today many teens feel like their friends are more family than their nuclear relatives
