This book greatly relates to my own experience, I have seen most of this in news articles and movies in health class. The book also makes a very big connection to the real world, the most recent incident involving the food industry being “Civil disobedience expected as fast-food workers push for raise”. This article talks about how several fast-food restaurants are being targeted with acts of civil disobedience. The workers engaged in civil disobedience in about 150 cities in order to demand for a better pay and unionization. The workers get paid around $15,000 a year which would be equal to around $7.25 an hour; the protestors are asking for a $15 wage. …show more content…
This 32 year old woman – Fernandes – was found dead inside a convenience-store parking lot in Elizabeth, NJ. Hazmat investigators found fumes in Fernandes’ car caused by a gasoline can spill. Fernandes’ friends said that she would keep the gas in her car so that she would not have to stop at gas stations between jobs. Her friends also said that Fernandes slept in her car in between jobs; Fernandes was working for jobs at the time of her death. I believe she had to do so in order to keep up with the expenses and compensate for the low salary given by each job. While being tragic this is one of many cases that are reported on the news page, Debra Harrell was arrested in July.
