In Justin Lin's fifth installment to the Fast and Furious franchise, Fast Five , exhibits the lengths a person or rather a group is willing to go towards freedom and the consequences for that freedom. This is the case for the main character, Dominic Toretto ( Van Diesel) demonstrates this idea by forgoing his criminal past and starting his life anew with this last stint. The film focuses on a band of elite car racers who do one final job in Rio de Janiero, Brazil to gain their freedom from the authorities. The group pulls of a massive heist while vying against a powerful Brazilian drug-lord and a ruthless federal agent. This action-packed movie's release date was April 19, 2011 and the movie itself spans over 2 hours and 10 minutes. The movie's theme focuses on family, fighting against the odds, and good vs evil. …show more content…
A prime example of this is in the opening of the movie where Dominic is convicted and jailed while O'Conner and Mia worry over his fate. Throughout the film, reflective close-ups on Dominic and Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) are made to suggest the exact impact of the fast life and the struggle for a better life. This is also important due to O'Connor's expecting girlfriend Mia ( Jordana Brewster) and the need for a more stable, conventional life. Other notable characters such as Roman (Tyrese Gibson), Tej (Ludacris), Gisele (Gal Gadot), and even Han (Sung Kang) all renounce their criminal lives for a more stable one towards the end of the movie.
