Especially for someone who has never been a part of a cheer team, gymnastics, or regular exercise in general. I grew up within a family apprehensive towards the outside world and in my younger years, stayed inside most of the time. This sheltered environment resulted in me never learning how to do a proper cartwheel. Within the harsh and cliquey elementary school community, being able to cartwheel was what defined "coolness" and if you were the most flexible, you had the most friends. So I was a loner. But as middle school approached, I refused to remain a loner despite the fact no one cared if you could do a cartwheel anymore. So I practiced in my front yard, in my back yard, in my living room, Walmart anywhere really until I had a semi-cartwheel going for me. Come freshman year, I tried out for the volleyball team - made B team nonetheless - and did cartwheels in the gym after practice. After years of loneliness and discrimination, I mastered the cartwheel and conquered what I could not
