Fashion School Application Essay

By the time I was five years old, I had already established my “look”; a silhouette eerily similar to that of Alexa Chung’s (turtle neck, boxy mini skirt, and some variation of patent leather footwear). In the words of the A-lister, “Our affinity for fashion starts at a young age,” which couldn’t be more true, seeing as I still dawn the same look today, albeit a few sizes larger. While I was never anywhere near as polished Miss Chung, my persistence and utter absorption in fashion was all-consuming.
While other kids were polishing their rock collections, I spent hours upon hours in my room shooting and editing videos, attempting to show my small audience on Youtube a modern day take on Anna Karina’s clothing and makeup. My time was spent between that and promoting products I adored on my blog; however, it wasn’t until I got involved in publicity and the costume and makeup departments for high school theatre that I got a taste of the often high-stress situations one would be under in the fashion industry. Fashion school is the obvious choice for me simply because it’s the only future I’ve ever truly envisioned for myself. Had my passions been as avidly cultivated at a young age, I might be at a different point; however, I’ve learned over the past year that life is too short to not do exactly what you’re supposed to do. I won’t stop moving until I have done just that. While there is much left for me to learn, I know that I am capable as long as my best effort is put forth. It won’t be easy, but with the amount of time I have spent agonizing over the newest SS 2016 collections, I know that the Advertising and Marketing Communications route is the right choice for me, and the Fashion Institute of Technology is the perfect place to pursue just
