Fascination With Murder

Decent Essays
“Why are we so fascinated with murder?” is about how the public thinks murder is fascinating. In tv-shows or movies, homicides are often portrayed as entertainment where viewers are sitting excitingly waiting to see who the killer is. Whereas, on the news people often get disgusted and shocked but even so, it is still interesting to hear about. We want to know what could lead someone to murder another person. The motives are what we look for to find out if the person did it to terrorize others or if it is “a crime of passion”. The latter is what can make others think if they would have done the same if they were in the same position.
Murder is fascinating because we wonder about what could make a person do such a vile thing, what or who made

Anatomy of a Murder: An Analysis The 1959 movie version of the book, “Anatomy of a Murder”, which was written in 1958, depicts the trial of Army Lieutenant Frederick Manion, who is accused of murder in the death of a local barkeep. There is no question as to whether Manion shot and killed the bartender, as the shooting and death occurred inside the bar in full view of eye-witnesses and Manion does not deny killing him. From the beginning, the answer to “Who, What, When, Where, How and Why” not only becomes the centerpiece of the trial process, but also serves as an overview of the strategy and skills needed for the defense attorney and prosecutor to convince the jury of believing in, and finding their argument as the most convincing. There…

From the first time my father let me read his Murder and Mayhem novel in the seventh grade and in eighth grade when I went to Washington D.C. and visited a crime and punishment museum consisting of the history of crimes and how they were reprimanded for their actions. After that afternoon there, I became almost obsessed with knowing why. I find every action has an effect somewhere else down the line, as Newton would say. Moreover, I’ve lost countless hours from watching documentaries and researching these people. Sometimes I don’t understand why I’m so drawn to their life stories, but I find that the more I learn, the better I can connect with someone’s past actions that reflect themselves…

In this essay I will reflect on the few assumptions and understandings I had about crime and see how they have changed. Upon arriving at De Montfort University to study Criminology and Criminal Justice, I had average knowledge about crime and punishment i.e. insight into biological and psychological perspectives of crime having studied A-level Law and Psychology beforehand. However I did expect to delve so deep into the history and other aspects of Criminology during this first semester. During A-level Law I have read many case studies of murder, manslaughter, GBH, rape etc. I found the main reasons behind committing these crimes were usually motives for revenge, loss of control, hate, rage, and biological inheritance of 'criminal genes ' such as Monoamine oxidase A which makes individuals more prone to exert violence.…
