Since 1977, customers have been stopping by Bojangles’ to have their flavorful chicken, buttermilk biscuits, sweet tea, and legendary fixings. Bojangles in Farmville, Virginia has been in business for about five years now. Bojangles’ currently has more than 600 store locations inside the United States. The mission or vision statement is “To create a culture based on trust, effective leadership, and total commitment that is without equal.” The manager of Bojangles was contacted to understand how the business is run from a local standpoint in the area of Farmville, Virginia.
Farmville is a small southern college town with Longwood University located in the middle and with Hampden-Sydney College just a few miles away. The town of Farmville’s population, excluding students, is about 4,000 and including both Longwood and Hampden-Sydney students the figure nearly doubles to about 9,000. Carlos Holland, the manager at this location, tries to specifically target families but has no choice but to target local Longwood and Hampton-Sydney students. One great way Holland and the rest of his staff targets the college students is by advertising must have deals on social media. Specifically targeting families requires more thought and creativity. The top three characteristics within an employee that Holland strives for are punctuality, honesty, and an outgoing personality. He stated, “If I could get those three, then that’s the perfect employee for me.” He also aims to hire employees with a cheerful, chipper character.
