“How are cocoons made? Do wings pop out when they become butterflies?”
That is two of the many questions Michael asks throughout the day. For these inquiries, it happened during his small group reading, in response to the story, Farfallina and Marcel, by Holly Keller. The content describes the relationship between a caterpillar and a bird; and by the time the children finished reading, Michael’s question shows his zeal to acquire more information. Nonetheless, at the start of the period, Michael did not show any enthusiasm towards opening the text, or confidence that he could complete the assigned work. With that knowledge, Michael stated, “That means next year will be…” When he was unable to determine the right year, his reading specialist gave him the correct answer.
After reading the story and learning that Farfallina and Marcel traveled south together, Michael shared with his class that he saw “1,000 birds at the beach during the summer.” That comment prompted his next question related to migration – “Will the birds come back to Philly?”
With him leading the dialogue, the teacher transitioned the children to turn to their workbooks and learn about contractions, along with applying their knowledge of the “i” word – inference. When the instructor prompted the class to give the definition, Michael’s eyes were firmly fixed on the ceiling, trying desperately to recall the information, but there was complete silence in the room. The silence eventually broke when the teacher gave the definition. Nevertheless, the inability to answer that question did not deter Michael from raising his hands several times. At one point, he gave two incorrect answers, followed by two correct answers. Such as, he read “ill” for “I’ll” and “hide” for “hid.” As a child that loves basketball, it is as though Michael knows he can make a mistake at the free throw line and still realize he has many more opportunities …show more content…
With his hands flaring in the air, Michael constantly volunteered to give answers. For the first question, he incorrectly stated that “we are” becomes “we’re” by dropping the letters “re” instead of “a.” However, that did not stop him from making five three pointers in a row. Michael proudly answered
