Farewell to Manzanar: Argumentative Essay over discrimination.
Imagine a girl and her family being mistreated by other people because of their different characteristics. This is what people from Manzanar and many other people from different relocation camps endured when returning to their homes in the U.S., including Jeanne and her family. Jeanne’s family went through many types of discrimination from being U.S. citizens to becoming enemies just because they have similarities towards the real enemy. Papa and his family endured 3 and a half years of camp because of prejudice and discrimination the government showed towards Japanese Americans. In the book and now, it is important to stand up against any type of unfair treatment. In the book, it is clear how people feel when others stand up for them, Farewell to Manzanar shows.“What are you looking at? She’s an American citizen, too. She's got as much right as anybody to walk around the street”. Her outbursts always amazed me. but I was grateful when Radine stuck up for me.” This text shows the effect of standing up for people when they feel discriminated against by others based on their looks. Being friendly and generous to everyone is a good thing, not seeing others based on their looks but on what's on the inside is something everyone should strive for. In the book, Jeanne has friends who are different from each other but still hang out because of the relationships they have and not because of what she looks like.
