While Jeanne was young, she could not have known her father would be taken away. At first she was sad, but later did not care as much. “Papa's disappearance didn’t bother me nearly so much as the world I soon found myself in” ( Wakatsuki - Houston, 8). In families the mom is basically considered the hero or the most strongest or the brother is the overprotective one most of the time. In families we should be able to count on them to be there for us when we need them. “Mama and my brother had succeeded in keeping most of us together” (Wakatsuki - Houston,18). While going through hard times Jeanne’s mother and older brothers had done many things to make sure the family stays together and to keep everyone happy and not worried about anything. In the novel the family went through some bumps in the road, but still managed to make the best of it. Jeanne and her family also remembered the fun and joyful times they had together as a family.” The reason I want to remember this is because, I know we’ll never be able to do it again”(Wakatsuki - Houston,27).
