Farah Ashley's Determination

Being determined means to have willpower. Which is a necessity during a live or die situation. Much like the circumstances the characters from “The Most Dangerous Game” and “Escape from Afghanistan” were put in. In the “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, Sanger Rainsford’s determination and skills is what keeps him alive throughout the story. Similarly in the autobiography “Escape from Afghanistan” Farah Ahmedi’s determination and strength gets her mother and her to Pakistan safely. Sanger Rainsford and Farah Ahmedi both demonstrate that determination is necessary for survival. In “The Most Dangerous Game” Rainsford is thrown one challenge after another. The beginning of all his problems start when he falls off the yacht, he tries his best to get the crew’s attention, but he realizes there is no use. So he, “doggedly swam…, swimming with slow, deliberate strokes, conserving his strength. For a seemingly endless time he fought the sea” (Connell 26). From the start Rainsford is committed to survival. He soon prevails in even more dangerous situations. From being stranded in an unfamiliar island to being hunted by a psychotic hunter Rainsford is able to stay determined even when the odds were not in his favor. …show more content…
Farah’s goal is to get her mother and herself across the border of Afghanistan to Quetta, Pakistan. On their way there they come across multiple challenges. For instance, Farah and her mother try to get on to a very crowded bus, surrounded by dozens of people, in order to get through Farah realizes, “…what we needed to do, and taking my mother by the arm, I shoved and pushed with the others until we made it to the door of the van” (Ahmedi 355).
