Farah and her mother were trapped in a war-torn country and needed to get across the Pakistan border. Farah had found a way to get across the border but her and her mother had no money so they couldn't bribe their way into the little door at the end of the gate. Farah made friends with a new family and the father was kind enough to let them go with their family up the mountain through the smugglers path to get to Pakistan. Walt's dad had gone to Dawson to make a claim legal along with their neighbor Loren Hall. Walt was asked to watch over Loren's claim and watch out for claim jumpers. When Walt seen them he did everything he could to save that claim, even stealing the claim jumpers sled dogs. He was in such a rush that he put the wrong dog as lead. Walt knew that if the claim jumpers had found him, that would be the last of Walt Masters. Since, Walt had out the wrong dog as lead they were not steady and way out of control, which made them go even slower than he wanted. The claim jumpers had finally caught up to Walt and since they couldn't get on the sled, they started firing at Walt and shot the dogs ear. There wasn't anything he could do about it so Walt had to switch out the dogs the best he could. Walt finally got to the office in Dawson before the claim jumpers with his neighbor. Walt was willing to risk his life to save his neighbors claim, and yet he still reached his
