Fantasy Football Research Paper

Millions of football fans are playing fantasy football in the United States and Canada. One of the many attributes about fantasy football is that anyone can play it, as long as they understand the game of football. Fantasy football is on the verge of getting bigger that the actual game of football. When walking into the local sports bar on a Sunday, fans are wearing their team apparel and cheering for their favorite teams, but fans are also checking their cellular phones frequently for the current updates on their fantasy football team. Some fans argue that by playing fantasy football, they are jeopardizing their loyalty to their favorite football team and ruining the sport of football. However, many fans believe that it makes the sport more engaging to watch. Watching American football has taken on a new meaning and fantasy football has broaden the image of the NFL, by not making it limited only to team rivalries. Fans are not only rooting for their home teams, but against them as well. Selling their loyalty play by play, all for bragging rights and money. The average football fan is not successful by just their own knowledge of the game of football, it takes a lot time and resources manage a good team. This in the end helps the sport grow and prosper. “Fantasy participants often become more knowledgeable of the National Football League (NFL) than the average fan and are therefore arguably more involved in the sport” (Nesbit and King 96). Fantasy Football also presents an opportunity for a fan to continue to enjoy football, although their team is not performing so well. Even with the growing popularity of fantasy football there are fans of football who consider themselves purist to the sport disgusted by the dis loyalty that comes with the culture of playing fantasy
