Let me just clear the air before I start, I am a big man and by no means have I ever surfed or ever dreamed of surfing but it has always fascinated me in different ways. You may be asking yourself as to why I am writing about a surf apparel company that is centered around surf and beach life if I have no real interest in surfing besides the fact that only fit people can do it, and I can't. The reason why I chose this topic is not only the fact that a surfer bum hit it “big” but also the fact that Ron Dimenna achieved a long time goal by hard work and perseverance. I will also be briefly explaining the history behind the “World's Most Famous Surf Shop”. Ron Jon Surf Company was founded in 1959 by a surfer named Ron Dimenna. The exact location at which was the birth of Ron Jon Surf Co. was in a county no bigger than a mile wide, not to mention that a quarter of it was ocean, Long Beach Island is deemed “The Original” simply because it was his first store to open. The main concern was an outdoor display at his original surf shop. The ship bottom judge threatened to throw DiMenna in jail for failure to pay mounting fines. An Abundance of newspapers covered the story, including The New York Times. The store's manager provided quotes. DiMenna, however, was unavailable for because he was off riding horses in Tasmania. When caught for an interview Ron claimed he was an assistant for Ron. When asked his name he said “Joey”. As if the interviewer was pulling teeth he had to ask his name and Ron said Norton. Joey Norton. Norton stands for N-O-T-R-O-N spelled backwards. Joey Norton was adopted as to the list of names for Ron Dimenna and if Ron was seen more in public the reporter may have noticed him instead of learning the acronym days after the
