Famous People From The 40's

The 1940’s was filled with many different people, places and events. Some famous characters of ‘40’s included Mickey Mouse, Superman, and even The Three Stooges. The famous actor John Wayne is from the ‘40’s. Even the famous baseball players Joe Dimaggio, and Jackie Robinson are both from the ‘40’s. Perhaps one of the most famous people from the ‘40’s was the chancellor of Germany, Adolf Hitler. Hitler was responsible for the death of approximately 11 million people. He came up with the idea known as the “Final Solution,” because he was convinced that the entire Jewish race was responsible for Germany’s problems. The people were sent to concentration camps; the most famous camp was called Auschwitz. Auschwitz was arguably the most deadly and ruthless concentration death camp in the Holocaust. It was composed of three different camps which included concentration, extermination, and forced-labor. (“Auschwitz Concentration Camp”). Auschwitz was also composed of 45 sub-camps. Auschwitz was located in Poland. The slaves were completely shaved and tattooed a number on their left forearm; they were then given striped prisoner outfits and shoes. Prisoners had no change of clothes and had to sleep in the same clothes that they had to work in. The barracks that they stayed in had no windows, or insulation from the heat or cold, no bathroom, they all shared a single bucket. Each barrack held over 30 wooden bunk beds, the prisoners were stuffed in as many as 500 in a single barrack. The inmates were given barely enough food to survive.
