Famous All Over Town Do you believe that the actions and choices you make today will inevitably sculpt your future? Or that your destiny is not predetermined and that you have the ability to live the life you choose? This concept is evidently integrated into the overall all theme of the novel, Famous All Over Town by Danny Santiago.The protagonist Rudy Medina, faces many obstacles in which could justify that he was doomed to a life of crime. However, there were many opportunities and mentors that offered their guidance and support. In effort to essentially secure him a bright and successful future. Yet, despite the opportunities, he chose not to take advantage of what was presented to him. He inevitably,could not put his life together. …show more content…
Overall he was needy and had naïveté. He didn't know any better and lacked the love that he deeply craved. He took any form of love, attention, and affection he could get. For example when Dr. Penrose sexually harrassed him , "He untied my neck strings..peeled the gown off my shoulders.. I was naked to my heels"(36). He was oblivious and had naïveté. And took it as a nice gesture. Rudy thought,"The he have my butt a friendly slap.. left before I could say thanks"(36). Rudy forms a bond with Dr. Penrose and even defends him when his dad says rude things about him. Despite the assault that he seen as a friendly gesture. Another example is Remedios, Soco Guiterez, and Artemis. Rudy said ,"The truth is that lady had been on my mind for days..All my life I heard..these older ladies and how they favor us guys.."(142-143).All women he becomes interested in, show him the slightest affection or potential affection.Another example is his adventures with Pelon , specifically when they stole from the store. They went all through the trouble for a girl because Rudy thought, " I knew what I really needed, a women, or a girl or whatever"(151). Pelon told him ,"We could try Artemis?..and takes off her clothes if you feed her wine"(151). Which is the entire reason why they rob the grocery store. Rudy did it to also get attention and spend some time with Pelon in which he felt close to. At the end the idea of him lacking affection is evident. He writes all over the city of LA wanting to be known. He thinks, " I don't need to be any fancy type of Lawyer or Doctor...all I need is plenty of chalk..LA may be a monster city but give me a month and I'll be famous all over town"(284). Meaning that he will deface the entire city until he is known all over town.Overall he just lacked the attention, support, and motivation that was needed for him to work towards a brighter
