The Quintanilla’s Cultural Family Assessment How does one define culture? In our readings culture is defined as a set of shared views and adaptive behaviors that are derived from a variety of context (Plumer, 2013). When assessed properly a culture assessment could shine the light on a family’s culture norms, values, beliefs, and patterns of thinking, which then could help us heal our patients holistically (Friedman, Bowden, & Jones, 2003, p. 230). On topic, the family we will be assessing was proud and preservative of their culture.…

Immigration has been a problem in America for a long time. The topic whether we should round up all the illegal immigrants and drag them back to their own country or if we should allow them to reside within America is mentioned in many presidential debates. Some people believe we should do this while others oppose the idea. There are many worries about the illegal immigrants adapting to America, Linda Chavez in “Supporting Family Values” believes immigrants are beneficial to American society. Although people assume otherwise, I am Latina, and I'm proud to be a part of that community. I obtain my Latin blood from my father, who moved to the United States from Uruguay as a child. My parents divorced each other when I was young; however, when I was with him for either the weekend or the month of July, I embraced all the wonders of my Latin family. Latino culture entails prodigious amounts of cooking, and we always cooked Uruguayan food; it was almost taboo to eat out. From flan to the glorious empanadas, my family always ate homemade meals.…

Discussion Culturally congruent interventions that are supported by evidence to aid Hispanics families in accessing health care include state and national policies. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is a national policy created to give Americans the opportunity to access affordable health care with limited discrimination (Shaw et al., 2014). It gives the Hispanic population a better chance in receiving health insurance coverage. A second policy, Building Strong Readers in Minnesota, is a state policy targeted at children in grades pre-kindergarten through 3rd grade. It makes sure that once children get to 3rd grade that they can read at the appropriate reading standard for the state (Lieberman, 2015).…

As previously stated there is a code of honor basically in all forms of life. The novel shows Hispanic cultural references as well as what the people believe. In America people have more free reign to do as they feel which would be related to free will but in Hispanic culture they believe more of fate and a destiny and that their path has already been laid out from God himself. Personally there are some connections that I have with the novel such as a code but there are times in which they can not simply be followed. One being thou shalt not kill, if I was to be threatened and my life was in the enemy hands I would fight in order to survive at all cost.…

I am very interested in the Hispanic cultural. I have put a lot into getting to know this culture by visiting the Niagara cafe and talking to my friend Hugo who I have interviewed for this paper. He identifies as Mexican American, and is “hispanish and Latino” he says. This means he is ethnically and racially part of the Hispanic Community. “Only about 25 percent of Hispanic Americans use Hispanic or Latino to describe themselves” (page 217).…

One time in high school I drove to one of my close friends homes. I walk in through the front door only to find my friend’s father yelling at him because he did not pick her up from work the day before and was now being punished by not being allowed to drive the car for the rest of the week. Just two weeks later I went to a different friend’s home and when I came in the house, his mother was discussing with him very calmly that she was disappointed that he came home so late the night before, told him he should not do it again, forgave him and let him come with me to get lunch. The difference between these parenting styles are very clear but, which is a better way to raise a child? What other kinds of styles of parenting are their?…

One of the most important institutions for a human being is the family. The family is where the individual builds up their manners, values, and morals. Family is also where socialization is mostly affected for an individual. Family Introduction Creating this genogram was a difficult task for me because my parents and their siblings hardly communicate with each other anymore. Ever since the passing of both my paternal grandfather and maternal grandmother, the families have simply fallen apart. Many relatives have distanced themselves from their extended families, and no longer have a desire to interact with their siblings or cousins. Sociopolitical and spiritual issues have caused some members of both families to harbor resentment against one another.…

The group I chose to research was the Hispanic culture. I do not know much about the Hispanic culture nor have had much experience working with this culture. Sometimes it can be hard to work with or surround yourself with people when your cultures are not the same, therefore getting to better know the values and customs of a Hispanic will help me to make sure my clients get the most from me Knowing more about the people that I am dealing with is the best way to ensure a good client to counselor relationship. The Hispanic culture is one of the fastest growing cultural groups in the United States. The U.S. Census data indicates that Hispanics will be the largest minority group by the year 2050 (U.S. Bureau of the Census, 1992).…

A strong emphasis is placed on family as the major source of one’s identity and protection against the hardships of life. This sense of family belonging is intense and limited to family and close friends. People who are not family or close friends are often slow to be given trust, so it is important for Latino individuals to sustain those strong relationships with family and friends as a means to receive support when needed. The family model is an extended one; grandparents, aunts, cousins, and even people who are not biologically related may be considered…

That is right. When family members have different family values and different definitions of family, there might be some family tensions. We have to apply an other-orientation to family relationships. Effective other-orientation requires a consideration of my parents’ backgrounds: their treatment as children by their parents; their education background and work experiences; and finally, the community and historical era in which they were raised. Then, I can put myself in their situation and imagine what it would have been like to grow up as they did, to work and raise a family (Family Conflict 2015).…
