The meaning of family is never the same for each person, and it can be defined in an infinite number of ways. Families can sometimes be dysfunctional, crazy, and incredibly challenging. However, family is what makes you feel loved, understood, and a little less lonely in this huge world. The important part about family is that regardless of the actions you take, family will always forgive and protect you. In the movies, In America, The Family Stone, and Soul Food, we view three very different families dealing with different issues. However, regardless of what the families had to deal with during the movies, they always came together in the end. In the second film, The Family Stone, the family was celebrating Christmas throughout the whole movie, but we saw the family members struggle to agree with each other, rather than with outside forces. The most prominent struggle throughout the movie is the family’s little desire to accept Meredith as their son’s girlfriend and future wife. The family’s love for the son is very evident, and they only want the very best for him. However, they feel that Meredith is very uptight, a workaholic, and she expresses opinions throughout the movie that the family does not agree with. They disagree with the son’s choice of having her in his life, and the mother refuses to give him the ring, that she promised he could have once he met the woman he wanted to marry. Throughout the movie, we also see Meredith battle with herself. The family is hard on her, and she feels as if she isn’t good for them. This film spanned only a few days of their lives. In the third film, Soul Food, we see the family fall apart because Big Mama cannot …show more content…
In the film, In America, the family grieved throughout the film, and they finally accepted the fact that he was gone. It brought their family even closer together, and it made them even more grateful to have one another. In the film, The Family Stone, the family eventually accepted each other’s mistakes and came together at the end to give their mother an unforgettable last Christmas. Although there was a lot of bickering among one another throughout the film, the family put aside their differences because they realized that they loved one another too much to ruin Christmas. In the film, Soul Food, although the family lost their glue that held them together, they overcame their differences with one another because of their love for one another. The came together for a family dinner at the end, and everything was as if none of the fighting ever happened. Each of these films show us that the common theme is that regardless of what happens between the family members, a real family will always come back together in the
