Using the Person- Centered theory allows me to use the empathy with clients (Hazler, 2016). When empathy is not used this can hinder the growth and development of a client when they do not have this support in their lives. Using empathy is therapeutic and is an unconditional positive regard in the client’s progress. This will allow me as a counselor to give the acceptance needed by the clients. In addition, person-centered therapy is also based on the idea that “clients are our own best teachers,” meaning that clients are the experts of their own lives (Psychotherapy.net, 2008).
Family Systems theory is observation of how the individual impacts the “family” in which is the system (Psychotherapy.net, 1997). What I observed about System therapy is that the client is treated outside of their context or situation. An integrated approach with Adults with Depression.
Working with the adult population would allow me to use the person-centered approach and the family system theory. Helping adults to know that someone care and can help reteach how to live a better life is a plus.
