The reading The Other Family addresses an important problem in Canadian society. There is a hegemonic culture in Canada that causes immigrants to fear that they will lose their own customs and traditions. In the reading the little girl drew a picture of a family that was not representative of her own but that was what she knew to be a “Canadian family”. The reaction of her mother is indicative of the fact that this is a concern for their family and their heritage. This shows the overarching issue about the education system not being inclusive of all cultures as they should be in a multicultural country.…

The three targeted areas are urgently needed by the family system from the assessment are a stable home, an interaction between siblings, and addressing the major ongoing problem within the family. For a stable home, in the movie scene, it appears how unstable the Grapes family home is, the house is damaged, and they did not have enough money to rebuild it or fix the parts that were falling apart. The second target area is the interaction between siblings, they did not express their feelings towards each other or shared feelings among each other and instead kept it to themselves and left it hanging. It kind of goes with my third point which is addressing the major ongoing problem within the family. No one ever talked about the struggles the family was facing.…

In the novel, So B. It, the character Heidi interacts with a secondary character named Georgia Sweet. They treat each other almost as if it was a sister-to-sister connection. When you read the dialogue, it almost sounds like they understand each other, and they know exactly what they’re going through. For example, the text says, “But in spite of all that was different, in some deep, important way Georgia and I were like the two yellow ducks in the Memory game, one in the middle and one in the upper lefthand corner, matching.” This statement shows how their connections, are matching, and are very similar.…
