In June 2012, I finished my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Texas in Arlington. My BSN provides a comprehensive foundation in learning nursing theories, clinical applications, critical thinking skills, nursing research, leadership and management roles, public and community health care that are essential to be successful in the Family Nurse Practitioner Program. I have been a registered nurse for five years now. Currently, I am working as a staff nurse in the Emergency Department at Kaiser Permanente in Downey. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, nurse practitioner job opportunities are expected to grow 34 percent through 2022. Becoming an FNP came to mind. As an FNP, I can choose to specialize in adult, family, gerontological, pediatric or women’s health. I can work in a variety of settings such as clinics, urgent care, schools, home, hospitals or community-based setting. I feel that my BSN studies, coupled with my five years of experience, prepare me to undertake FNP studies now. I am ready to move forward in my nursing …show more content…
My expectation for this FNP program includes having full support and effective communication among instructors and students. I expect that clear information and direction on how assignments, paperwork or exams will be provided to students. I expect to have strong and solid knowledge and skills needed to acquire a job as an entry level FNP.
I am committed to becoming an FNP, if am not successful in this this first application, I will reapply. I know that working as a nurse and having a toddler while attending FNP program will be challenging. Time management would be one of the challenges that I will need to address. I am fortunate to have the support of family and friends. I will find a balance which will allow me to advance my career and spend quality time with family. I am fortunate that my institution provides for tuition fee reimbursement, so finances will be less of a
