There is nothing comparable with the happiness of knowing my purpose in life. Being a nurse gives me a great sense of personal fulfillment that brings on new challenging experiences every day. It is a field that allows me to constantly evolve and has given me many meaningful experiences that has inspired me to pursue a career as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

During one of my shifts, I remember he stated “Nurse Paula, I’m always here because I don’t have a doctor or living relatives and it’s hard to follow a good diet or remember my medications. I want to do better; I just don’t know where to start!” His statements were sincere and I was able to detect the challenges he faced with his heart failure management despite the evidence based care he received. My research interest in the prevention and management of cardiovascular health developed when I noticed a continuous pattern in his behaviors. This observation guided me to initiate a quality improvement project with assistance from a DNP prepared nurse with scholarly expertise in cardiovascular health. Ultimately, my goal for this project is to optimize inpatient heart failure nursing education and to provide more self-care support after discharge for all other Mr. R.C.’s. By obtaining a DNP, I will be able to acquire the skills needed that will allow me to translate evidence-based research to nursing practice and conduct more quality improvement projects that will enhance the patient care
