I have not had experience through our school district with family literacy nights, but my children and I have participated in our local library’s family literacy nights. Throughout the year our library hosts a Family Fun Night For Literacy. They add different themes and usually have a character, such as Curious George there for the children to meet and receive a free book from. They read books, write, and have activities centered around the theme. It is a real treat when the author shows up to read their story to the children. This is a great way for the children to get interested in learning and also demonstrates the importance of reading and writing when the family participates together.
