My grandfather’s grandfather lived on a farm somewhere in central Mississippi during the late 1800’s. According to my grandfather, he was a very hard working and honest man, both out of necessity and from his upbringing. My grandfather’s grandfather would take several weeklong trips in ox-drawn wagons down to Covington to sell his livestock and produce in the town’s markets. This trip was no easy task and while he could have just simply farmed for subsistence, he instead chose to build better opportunities for his children through savings and investments in land.
