When it gets to the middle of the story, Jeanette claims “Brian, Lori, Maureen, And I got into the most fights than most kids” (Walls 164). *This is basically claiming that they were not liked well, but the kids were always there for each other by backing each other up in fights which is a great way of showing how the kids realized as they got older that they were not like for the way they were raised.*
When it came near the very end of the book, after Rex died. Most of the family got back together and decided to call a toast to Rex. “Mom stared at the ceiling, miming perplexed thought. “I got it.” She held up her glass. “Life with your father was never boring” (Walls 288). *This basically summarizes how as the kids got older they took their own paths because they didn’t want to live a life like they used to as kids.* But at the end, they acknowledged that their dad made things interesting even if they were in a bad situation.
