Another thing I have learned about my family deals with relationships. Next would be aspects of my family history that I would preserve or leave behind. Lastly, there are the family peak experiences and notable successes that have happened over the years and generations.
Starting from the most recent one that my mom has owned for 5 years now. She is an owner, one of three, of a print shop company. One of the other owners has several

Things that help keep relationships well within families is to separate work life to family life as best as possible, to communicate and articulate well with each other, to have a good work ethic so that it does not seem like the owners are playing favorites due to family members. This is something that I make sure that I do when I am working, because I want to be treated like everyone else at work, even though I know I am held at a higher standard in one of the owners eyes.
Besides having good family relations as a family we have several family values that we try to stick to. These include having a good work ethic, to be responsible for your actions, to be fair, to be optimistic because you need to try to find the positives in life and thrive off of that. My eighty-three year old grandfather handed me an overwhelmingly thick book titled “Sheils Family History” and said, “Here; look through this. Maybe you’ll run into one of these people.” I suppressed a laugh, thinking of the near zero probability of me “running into” one of my distant family members as I travelled abroad for the next two weeks. However impatient, I sat quietly listening to my grandpa chirp away about our ancestors and his war stories, while I pictured myself for the next fourteen days in a completely new place.…

Family Values Nostalgia for the 1950s is real and deserves to be taken seriously, but it usually shouldn 't be taken literally. (pg.33 of What we really miss about the 1950’s) Growing up in a two parent household who base their parenting abilities on what the Bible has to say, can relate a lot to being in the 1950s. It has a lot of the same values work hard, love unconditionally, and don 't sin. Today’s society with all the electronics that we have makes it very difficult to get tasks accomplished. First, when making a new diversity training program it is important to get everything in the program that is needed to suit all types of people. The four questions I would ask for my training program would be tell me about your family, ask about their ideas, would you like to meet the new employees, and ask them about their past. These four topics have key information that will allow me to get to know the individual. Tell me about your family: This would be an important factor because employers who know about the employee’s family can keep in touch with them. This makes their relationship more personal and will show you care and respect their home life as much as you do their work life.…

Cultural Identification: My identity is influenced by many factors, some being more obvious than others. Gender and age are the most obvious trait to recognize, which leads other contributing factors be unnoticed, for example, culture. Despite the fact that culture plays a very important role in influencing who we are, it is often overlooked because it cannot be seen by just looking at a person. The overarching topic from the readings for this week is that family climate plays a critical role in the success and longevity of family businesses. This topic is spread over nearly every reading for the week, including that from the textbook. In the article by Prof. Miller (from Frontiers in Psychology), family climate is broken down into three main categories: intergenerational style, family cohesion, and family process.
