Family Genogram Analysis

Everyone has their own way of describing their family. I’m sure we all experience our definition of a “crazy” sibling, aunt, or grandparents, but we all have our own story to tell. Each side of my parent’s family has had their fair share of problems, we have also come together in times of need. Isn’t that what family is for? For my family genogram, I presented my closest family that I still speak to, or the family that I believe is most important. I presented each of my parent’s siblings, parents, and their first marriages. Each family also has their own secrets, and traditions that they share. My genogram can clearly show where a source of the problem prevails. Beginning with my mother’s family, her biological mother Flora was a very important influence in her life. She died at a very young age of colon cancer, and left her husband (my grandpa) with four kids to raise on his own. The four children my mother being one of them, includes my two uncles and one …show more content…
It can change your views, your hopes and dreams. The most important ones have the biggest impact in our lives. The relationship with my father has impacted to be the opposite. I have made a promise to myself to not only have a healthier lifestyle, but to also strive to be more patient and understanding. I’ve also stopped and realized that it is important to understand other people’s needs sometimes before your own, instead of always putting yourself first. My sister has been the first person I can always run to. Her and my father have never had a strong relationship since he came into the picture, so it’s easy to run to her. It’s also easier because she knew him before I was born, so she understands what I go through. I have taken into consideration many of the rules and things I was restricted to growing up to enforce on my own children. Things such as curfew, only accepting A’s and B’s, restricting the amount of sugar/ intake of

Our reading indicates that a genogram is a graphic display of a family that may include both family structure and processes (Hecker, 2015). The genogram starts with, the members of an extended family. Typically, family relationships are demonstrated as well as patterns of behavior that affect those relationships. Researchers suggested that genograms can be used to identify repetitive patterns of behavior, both adaptive and maladaptive, and to recognize clusters of health-related problems and to avoid potentially uncomfortable, though important, topics (Cook, 2007). In looking at the Bowen interlocking concepts the genogram can assist the therapist in looking at patterns of behaviors that have been used continuously to cope with anxiety.…

Family Session Outline 1 of 2 Discussion of what would be accomplished in each session and technique(s) used The primary accomplishment I wish to achieve in the first session is to reduce the anxiety that is being experienced within the family unit. By achieving this each family member should be better equipped to handle any emotionally charged incident and act in a calmer fashion. To effort this accomplishment a family genogram will be created so that the family can recognize any reoccurring maladaptive behaviors both within the immediate nuclear family structure and their extended family. If the family can be shown that the presenting problem is not an isolated event resting solely with one individual, but rather lies as a multigenerational…

For the first time in my life, I had the opportunity to create a genogram that would explore the history of myself and family. Much like a family tree, a genogram is a visual display of a person’s family relationships, psychological issues, medical history, culture and other hereditary likelihoods. Unfortunately, I was hoping to have been able to learn and share a lot about my family history but was unable to due to limited resources and lack of knowledge. Much of my genogram is composed of the things that I already know about my family and from stories that were shared with me, the main reasons I was unable to gather information is because of death and separation of my family both in the past and recently. I would like to start my genogram with my family connections, starting with Elvira, who was my paternal Grandmother, she was the foundation of my family.…

The genogram illustrated below describes my most immediate family members, consisting of four generations. I chose to include my family ties most relevant to this reflection. My father’s parents passed away before I was born. Now I am left with only my grandma, as her husband passed away in May 2017 from bile duct cancer. After completing the structure, I noticed that the entirety of my genogram has not experienced any marital separation or divorce, I believe this indicates my family values loyalty in a relationship.…

The sketch of my family’s genogram has given me insight into the history of the third, second and the first generation of children. I had to do research for the birthdays, deaths and marriages since they were before I was born. The system call for grandparents as the third generation, the beginning when the grandparents sometimes were married by the age of twelve or thirteen and picking cotton was the only way to accumulate income for the family. My father’s parents only had a common law marriage after living with a total of four children born to their family. On my mother’s side of the family, her mother and father had a marriage of forty years with a total of six children born to their family.…
