In the film, “Social Worker Home Visit with Ms. Smith: Family Engagement”, the social worker interviewed client Grace at her home because Children's Services received a called about her daughter Lauren. The social worker explained the reason for the home visit and to discuss some concerns involving Lauren. The interview purpose was the concerns of Lauren’s child development. Grace said her DSS worker Michelle was worried because Lauren, who is a 4-year old is sill drinking from the bottle and not fully potty trained. Grace also mentioned her worker concern of tooth decay.
The interview could have been improved on by not just focusing the interview on Lauren. The social worker mentioned Grace’s older daughter prior CPS case, however did not inquire on the prior case. The social worker could have inquired on the Grace’s pregnancy and health. The social worker could have explained her child’s developmental needs and why Lauren needs to stop using a bottle at night and be fully potty trained. The social worker and client could have work together to promote healthy development and recognize her child needs.

Code of Ethics. Throughout their conversation, the social worker used the Code of Ethics to help gain the client trust, respect and confidence. Through the use of self-determination, the social worker was able to connect with the client and allow her to recognize her own strengths and what she needs to improve to help care for her child.
