Family Dynamic Assessment

Improved Essays
I conducted a family assessment by interviewing a UNC student and her family dynamic. This assessment was meant for me to collect data, that will help me evaluate the family’s needs, health beliefs, health behaviors, and cultural factors that influence the individual or family and their health. The collection of data was designed to determine family’s health status and help us design the appropriate nursing intervention for the family. I used the 12 categories of data collection for Family Health Assessment.

Throughout civilization, there have been multiple changes in family dynamics and structure. In Changing Families: What Does the Economy Have to do With it? the one catalyst in familial change that I’ve never thought of is how technology in the home has lead to a shift in families over the last 65 years. Refrigerators, dishwashers, ovens, microwaves, washer/dryer and stoves make the functions of caring for a household not only take a fraction of the time, but also lend themselves to any gender.…

When thinking about families often they are associated with the private sphere of life, isolated from the effects of the public sphere. However, this could not be further from the truth as everything in the public sphere effects and dictates how families function, especially government policy. In order, to be aware of this fact policymakers use a method called the Family Impact Analysis. A 36 question analysis which measures the effects of a particular policy through five overall principles; family responsibility, family stability, family relationships, family diversity, and family engagement (Bogenschneider, K., Little, O., Ooms, T., Benning, S., and Cadigan, K., 2012). Nurses felt they were obsessive over their fathers care, and often viewed them as an obstruction they would rather ignore. This family was always at the beside, taking notes of any changes noticed. Unlike some of the nurses, I used them as a source of information during my client assessments. Usually, some family members use drugs as a last resort from an issue, they also use it to forget about a certain event that may haunt them, or it could be from a certain stressor within the family itself. As a result, Jess’s grades in school were dropping, he started arguments/fights with his parents, and he recently started to withdraw within himself.
