Family Dinner: The Williams And Garland Family

Everybody knows that a family dinner is a pleasant occasion. This is the case every few months when all members of the Williams and Garland family are home at the same time. Both children and adults put aside their overwhelming superiority complexes in order to love and support each other. One Friday evening the topic of this gathering was brought up in the Williams household by Mrs. Williams to her two kids, Mark and Sarah. Olivia Williams was highly educated and once retired, and raised her children with the same degree of precision as she had previously conducted chemistry experiments. She believed her background as a scientist made her a more fit mother than any other mother, especially her sister, whom she greatly disapproved of. Always on one diet or another. The poor people just weren’t genetically gifted with the slim bodies of our family” Mrs. Williams exclaimed. The talk continued until eventually they all went to bed. The next week passed without much commotion until finally it was the day of the dinner. “Hi everyone! So nice to see you again! How is everything?” Mrs. Williams greeted them at the parking lot. Such pleasantries ensued and only once all small talk was exhausted, were they able to move to substantial conversation that actually interested Sarah. Ben was as usual to break from the happy bubble of formality and today his topic of choice was career plans. Just having finished his engineering degree in New York, Ben was back in Silicon Valley looking for work in a high tech company. He had no passion for his work but it allowed him to drive an expensive car and impress girls so he was very pleased with his choices. His time in New York had given him a unique sense of practicality. Namely, he was practical, everyone else was not. “So Mark, how’s Boston?” He asked “You were working there unpaid right?
