Once a week, I have family dinner at my grandparents’ house. I have been attending these dinners every week for the past seven years and still going, never wanting to miss one. These dinners are nothing extravagant but a delicious home cooked traditional Chinese meal and a bonding time for the family. Even though we see each other every week, there is something new to talk about and something to laugh until everyone is in tears.
People think there is nothing special about this dinner, but the meal is not the significant part; it’s the memories made in the house. This house we eat in is the house my grandparents’ first bought when they came to America together. where my dad grew up in, and where I spent my summer days at. The table we eat on

Most students already have a head start by being tutored and/or come from parents who are intelligent and know English; however, I don’t see that as a disadvantage because I take all the opportunities given to me. Education is my number one priority because having an outstanding education will lead to a superb job which will lead to a bright future. In order for me to attain my goal of college, determination and persistence are key skills right now because stress surrounds me everyday; I’m consistently working on stacks of homework to the point where I’m exhausted, but I still give my full effort to try to keep up with the rest of the …show more content…
Every morning, my dad got up at 6:50 in the morning to drive us to school. My dad gave my brother and me the biggest bed to sleep on while he took the couch, so we got a better rest. My dad’s goal was to make sure I would not have to do any chores in order to focus on my academics. My dad worked from nine in the morning until ten at night with no food on the table when he came home. My dad called me every day right after school to make sure I got home safely. Even though he parted from us, from me, my dad deserves to be free from all the stress and the agony he felt the past forty-five years of his life.
The loss of my dad came with the responsibility to fill his role in the household. There are only three of us at home - my mom, brother, and me. I have matured more in order to create less stress for my single working mom and to create a better version of myself, that I know my dad would be proud of. I do more chores around the house while still completing my homework on school nights. It has been over a year since I lost him. I know that academics were important to my dad and it would mean the world to him if I continued my education, something he never got to

Tacos to casseroles, meatloaf to Swiss steak, Mom’s meals weren’t gourmet feasts meant to appease the persnickety palate of a gourmand or grace the cover of Bon Appètit magazine. However, there was always enough to feed anyone who showed up at dinner time, and everyone left with a smile on their face and a belly filled to critical mass. “I have a food baby” was a common complaint (compliment?) heard after dinner. Sunday dinners were, and still are, my favorite meal of the week.…

Although the celebration of my dad’s dinners was unspoken and perhaps invisible to me growing up, I know that there was never a sad face at the dinner table. From the moment my dad placed the meal on the table and my mom walked in from the living room, there was nothing but laughter, family, and some really tasty Italian…

Looking back on my log I had several meals by myself, and the meals I shared with my mother and brother were ate in front of the television with minimal conversation between the three of us, which seems to be the new norm in many households. I enjoyed a couple meals at work with my co-workers, but during the time I was eating no one else was, which took away from the sharing aspect of regular lunches with friends. For only two meals out of the week I had actual social interaction while I ate my food. Tuesday diner was the first time when I went to dinner with a group of friends. During dinner we all sat in the same booth and enjoyed each other’s company catching up on things that happened during the week.…

Thanksgiving at my house is always crammed with mouthwatering food, and great fellowship between family members. Every year we gather to enjoy each other’s company, and devour some scrumptious food. One year we might congregate at grannies house, and another year we may meet up at uncle TJ’s. The location may change but the thanksgiving meal never does; it always consists of turkey, stuffing, and green bean casserole. Carving the turkey on thanksgiving has long been a tradition in my family.…

My parents made sure that I was going to some of the better schools growing up. All three of the schools that I went to had teachers that pushed me past my limits to help me grow and when a teacher actually cares about their students it really helps them know the value of an education. I had to make sure that all of my homework was done before I go outside and play with friends or play any video games. Although at the time I hated my parents for doing this I later realized how important that was. It taught me to have a good habit of doing my homework as soon as I got it.…

My little brother was only in kindergarten and my parents weren’t paying much attention to us. It angered me that they did this but since that happened I would go home straight from school and made sure my little brother ate and did his homework. I made sure he was on top of his school work and that he never had bad grades. Now he asks about colleges and which would suit him best to pursue his dream. It’s amazing to hear him say “When I grow up I want to be just like you.” I am glad that through everything it didn’t have a negative effect on…

We had played with the idea of moving in the past, none of us liked Andover, and the only child left at home was me. My dad travels for work so we decided to move closer to family members. We were leaning towards moving in the summer. They always said they would move before I started high school or after, they did not want me to have to start in the middle of high school like one of my brothers. It was a bitter January 4 when I told them that I would not mind moving during the school year, in fact, it would work better.…

Every Sunday we will meet and have dinner together. Most of the time someone will cook at their home but there are those lazy Sundays where no one feels like cooking and we end up at the closest restaurant. When I was younger I hated these dinners.
