Family Crest For my family crest, the last name that I used was Bigelow. This name is my fathers last name that he inherited from his adoptive father, making my system of descent; patrilineal. Since my dad was adopted, my system of decent may not be completely accurate. On my family crest, there is a shield with three diamonds on it, which depicts family. There is a knights helmet which shows the rank of nobility. There is also ribbon-like stuff on top of the helmet, which are colored blue and grey; the main colors of the shield. Just above the knights helmet there is a ram. Underneath the shield there is an optional motto that was most likely added in later years that says, "Finis Coronat Opus" which translates to "The end crowns the work". …show more content…
It also wouldn't be bad to take note that you probably live in the same household. I come from a nuclear family. I have a mother, a father and a nineteen year old brother. My family orientation has been somewhat dysfunctional, consisting of family feuds with extended family and other odd events that I won't go into detail about (none dealing with incest). My parents marriage wasn't one of homogamy, but it is a romantic love. They both lived very different lives before meeting each other and to this day share a small list of similar characteristics. Their marriage, for the most part is egalitarian but my dad tends to try and emphasize machismo. In more recent years, my family hasn't been known for doing activities together. Especially now that my brother has gone off to college. I usually stay put in my bedroom, doing homework or doing some other irrelevant activity. While my parents stay in the family room watching tv. However, on days that we do, do activities together, we might all pile into the car and go try a new restaurant. Or we all sit together and enjoy a meal of my parents making. Occasionally we sit down and watch a tv show or maybe even a movie

Traditionally, family members were defined as someone who was born into the family, adopted into the family, or united by marriage. Today’s family members have a broader spectrum which includes committed family households beyond legally married heterosexual couples and their children (McGoldrick & Carter, 2010). The complexities within each type of family structure were brought about by marriage, interracial coupling, foster parenting, informal kinship adoptions, social class position, and more. Therefore, family definition must go beyond traditional thinking to include people who choose to spend their lives together in a kinship relationship despite the lack of legal recognition or bloodlines. Family therapy took shape circa 1950s.…

Over spring break I travelled to Clearwater, Florida. There, my mom, my brother, and I stayed with my grandparents who have a small house in a very friendly neighborhood. During the break, on the third day there, my grandma, and the three of us travelled about two hours away to go to Magic Kingdom in Disney World. Every family has unfinished business, and my family is no exception. Multigenerational patterns (Goldenberg & Goldenberg, 2013; McGoldrick, Gerson, & Shellenberger, 1999) influence and contribute to relationship problems within family systems and to individual development. In my family, many conflict situations, or events have seemingly been resolved, however, the unresolved patterns that have gone unaddressed continue to fester, repeating themselves over time in different situations and life events. Bequeathed from generations before, and acquired honestly, my family struggles with destructive behaviors and patterns as defined by Goldenberg & Goldenberg, (2013); cut- off, dysfunctional triangulation, conflicts with attachment figures, and…
