Essay On Becoming Mexican American Family

I come from a relatively normal Swiss family. I was born and raised in the southern part of Switzerland, right in between of the Swiss Alps. My dad was married a first time when he was twenty years old and got two children. When he was forty-four, he met my mother who was “only” twenty-five years old. They had me about a year after their wedding and my brother arrived six years later. They had a happy marriage but after fifteen years, I guess the age difference was too big for both of them and they got a divorce. It was hard at first, but I am happy to say that they then became good friend and our family as a whole is great. We all have good relationships with each other. In my essay I will talk about the differences between the family beliefs and traits that my dad gave me and the one I received from my mother and the reasons why it could potentially conflict with my current life and especially my education and relationships. First of all, to contextualize a little bit, I have to talk about my beloved country and more specifically about a specific state from which my family comes from. The article says that European immigrant families, whose movement into American society could be best described as chain Migration, Mexican families were much more likely to be involved in a pattern of circular migration.3 The idea that European, like me, tend to go to the United States once and “gain”, “learn” or “improve” what they can and, then go back to their respective countries. Most European immigrant groups have high rates of return migration, ranging from twenty-five to sixty percent. In my case, I am planning on doing my Bachelor and maybe MBA in the United States and then come back to my country. It seems to be the best solution for all the parties
