INTRODUCTION:
To start with, lets talk about what is a family? The family is looked as the primary institution and a prime component of a larger institution called as society. Family is a social unit created by blood, marriage, or adoption, and it can exist as nuclear, joint, extended families according to the composition of the family.
In modern world, the concept of family and its meaning are changing and has undergone a significant transformations in its structure. Change in thinking process, introduction of new family concepts like live-in relationships (family without getting into the institution of marriage) and other such newer concepts have given gamily a new meaning and a new direction.
Like marriage, divorce is also getting quite popular in contemporary families. Though divorce option was available to couples since the concept of marriage came into action and was provided according to marriage laws and acts with different conditions based on religion or State’s laws. Though, traditionally only men were seen potent to give maintenance to women, as she has no means to sustain herself. But law is expected to change with time. When, women started taking active roles in the society and professional world, the maintenance law in India took care of it and brought working men and women in the same pedestal.
