False Whistle Design

Improved Essays
As you see above this is the computer design of a whistle that I am having printed. The original creator states that this whistle is, "a survival whistle that is a completely original design. I designed it to be rugged, easy to make and carry, have a great design and most importantly be very loud. It is designed to be able to get you noticed in all conditions." What is interesting about this whistle is that the designer (Joe Zisa) of the whistle created two separate chambers. Visa explains the reason for creating the two separate chambers, "The whistle actually has two slightly different tones produced at the same time by separate chambers on either side. The two different tones alternate between amplifying and canceling each other out. This variation creates the shrill sound much like a pea whistle that is more attention grabbing and does not get lost as easily over background noise like a single tone whistle could. …show more content…
The first reason was this was the object that was given to me to create for the quest. While some may not be happy with this, I am actually quite happy for a few reasons. The first reason is that I currently do not own a whistle and I do think they can be quite handy. I enjoy going on hikes out in the wilderness quite often. While I describe myself as experienced there are times when a whistle is needed. For example, you may trip and break a bone and if you don't have a whistle you can't reach out to anyone if your off the trail a little bit. I will also be able to use this whistle in the future as well, being that I want to be a baseball coach. While it isn't the most physically demanding sport, being in shape is essential. I can use the whistle when we do preseason conditioning or even during practices as an alert to switch stations or end a current

False Killer Whales versus Killer Whales Both Killer whales (Orcinus orca) and False killer whales (Pseudorca Crassidens) belong to the Delphinidae family. False killer whales resemble orcas because of the shape of their skulls, but the two species are actually not closely related (Baird, 2012). False killer whales are found in all tropical, subtropical, and warm temperate seas (MarineBio, 2013), usually in relatively deep offshore waters (Taylor, et al., 2008). In contrast, killer whales are often found in cold coastal waters (National Geographic, 2015).…

In the realm of acoustic ecology, Dr. Bernie Krause is arguably the foremost authority on natural soundscapes and recording them in the field. He has the largest private repository of intact recorded natural, primary, environments and has detailed extensively in his books The Great Animal Orchestra and Voices of the Wild, the importance of preserving natural soundscapes, not only for their inherent ecological value, but as an integral aspect of humanities cultural heritage. Krause’s contribution to soundscape study includes the ‘niche hypothesis’, arguing that natural soundscapes co-evolve with organisms creating acoustic niches over time in their environment. This theory brings interesting questions into the natural “orchestration” of sound…

Prairie dogs communicate in forms of yips which sound similar to the chirp of a bird. In addition to the yips there are also barks. These creatures send and receive sound waves in a similar fashion to many land mammals. Prairie dogs are insensitive to mid range frequencies and have a difficult time hearing high-frequency sounds. Researchers believe this is the case because it is hard for the these mammals to hear high-frequency noises in their underground homes.…

The movie is entitled Smoke Signals because at first it may seem like a stereotypical representation of Native Americans, however, it actually signifies the lack of communication Victor and Thomas have with each other, as well as between Victor and his father, and between the rest of their Indian community. This is because smoke from campfires continues to be a stereotypical symbol of Indian life and was how others, mostly the white community could identify Indians’ presence from miles away, like the fire that changed both Victor and Thomas's lives forever. The subjective shapes of the smoke have also been stereotypical symbols of Indian culture, as films like Pocahontas, depict mystical images and messages sent from the smoke itself. Just…
