In Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, two characters believe their love for each other is so strong that living without the other serves no purpose, however; in such a short time their so-called love lead to multiple deaths.
Romeo and Juliet believe they have a very strong and powerful love with each other after just one night and a few words, however: in such a short time they end up dying like much of their friends and family because of a lustful infatuation between the two lovers. They killed themselves when realizing what they believed was true love could no longer happen as the one they supposedly loved was dead. This false realization of what true love is cost them their lives. “Love can last a long time. It becomes deeper and more powerful over time. Infatuation is powerful, but short lived.” (The Differences Between Love and Infatuation) The small amount of time these two “lovers” had was much too small to catch real feelings. It was solely based on a physical desire for the other. This lead to the deaths of friends and cousins and themselves in just four days. Love grows slowly over time not instantly as Romeo and Juliet believed. In the final analysis, love is something that needs time and only can become greater with time. With Romeo and Juliet they had instantly believed what they saw in one another without speaking a hundred words would be worth dying for. After watching their friends and family die because of their secret “love” over the course of four days they committed suicide when plans fell apart and they saw who they loved lying
