Have you ever been a bystander for a crime or major event? Most people would say no to this question but, if you are one of the few people who answered yes this book will be great for you. False Friend by Andrew Grant is a mystery book about a group of detectives who are investigating a fire at a middle school in Birmingham, Alabama. Throughout the book the detectives are trying to gather evidence to convict someone of setting the fire. There were a few people walking on the street when the fire bursted out. A bystander took a picture of the fire that shows a blurry man in the background. There are a lot of important characters in the book, but one of the main detectives is named Cooper Devereaux. There are a few moments when she is scared for him because he is a cop. She says she does not feel safe all the time and does not know what to do at those times. For example when they are on a date watching a performance, Devereaux is forced to suddenly leave on police duty. Devereaux is highly aware that she will get mad at him for leaving again. “Then he pushed the feeling away, slipped into the aisle and hurried to the foyer to answer his call.” This shows how Alexandra is scared for him and his job. She is trying to support him and his job but it’s really hard. Later that night, Alexandra gets home and Devereaux is not there. She worries and say’s, “ Never know when he will be home, what state he will be in emotionality and physically, whether he’d come home safe.” This show’s how much Alexandra worries about Devereaux and his safety. Also, she is wondering if Devereaux has inherited his father's traits. His father was a well known killer a long time ago and got into a lot of trouble.
