This type of false confession is coerced-compliant false confessions. In such case, the suspect confesses to a crime, which the suspect is fully aware that he or she did not commit it. In this case, the teenagers were not guilty, but confessed only because they were provided no food or drink or sleep and promised they could go home once they made the confession. They were certainly aware that they did not commit the rape, yet confessed to escape further interrogation.

People with obedience personality are more likely to make a confession as required whether it is false or not instead of being silence or refusing to answer the questions the police asked. People who focus on short-term consequences tend to be tempted by the promised benefits. In this case, the suspects are all teenagers without enough life experience and knowledge, they did not have a stable personality, and were easily follow authority’s orders. They might fully aware they are not guilty, but not aware the consequences of their confession, so when they believe that they cannot avoid the interrogations and that they must make a choice, they tend to choose to
