Advertising is a “collective term for public announcements designed to promote the sale of specific products or services” (Advertising). Everyone in America will come across some type of advertisement in the media on a daily basis. In effect some have grown accustomed to them, and do not consider the errors in reasoning they are filled with. The media uses advertisements that contain logical fallacies like the weak analogy fallacy, the ad hominem fallacy, and the either/or fallacy, to shape the opinion of the public
For example, Ameriquest has a weak analogy fallacy in a recent television ad.A dad who is driving his teenage daughter and her friends to a concert. The daughter asks her father to stop to the store, because she wants to get some gum for the concert. After she gets out of the car she turns around,

On March 26, 1993, a woman in Texas answered her door to a Kirby salesmen that offered an in-home demonstration of a vacuum cleaner. After she let him in he raped her while her children sleeped in the next room. The salesman was a sex offender on probation, but the Kirby vacuum cleaner distributor did not perform background checks on its’ salesmen. The woman and her husband fought to sue Kirby, and the case made it all the way to the Supreme Court. Six judges ruled in her favor, the woman won, but Greg Abbot agreed with company against the victim saying the company was not responsible for the crime. The narrator ends with "Thank God, this time Greg Abbot lost," and the last caption reads, "Gregg Abbot another insider, not working for you"(Youtube). Anyone can see that this was a personal attack on Greg Abbot, making this example an ad hominen fallacy.
