Over the course of my visits to Fall River I think that my capacity to observe my environment and the factories stayed consistent. I naturally pay attention to minute factors and functions of my surroundings which I think is why I tended to focus on the machines and the smaller aspects of the factory. I also tend to be more reserved in social situations which lends myself to not being as willing to approach people, particularly because of the language barriers we faced at both factories and that such a great number of the employees did not wish to participate in the project. I think that over the course of my visits I was able to conceptualize all of the small parts of the factories and understand how they work in unison but I was not able …show more content…
I think this is partly because they were working and there was work to be done. I was told that for Anchor Uniform, they are receiving an overwhelming amount of orders which could have lead to the diligent work ethic and their need to really focus on their work. To deal with this, we tried to be friendly and pleasant and not too invasive or forceful. At both, few people spoke English and unfortunately no one in group was familiar with Portuguese. At US Bedding, Adam was very helpful in showing us around the factory and explaining all of the aspects. He was open to talking and shared a lot about his past struggles with college, drugs, and alcohol. He had a very strong story of perseverance and will-power to overcome his alcohol and drug addictions. So although he was rather informative and forthcoming with information, we were unable to interact with the other workers who were actually making the

As I entered into the store I saw a guy working for a commercial company trying to sell products. Once I reached to the quad many people were staring at me and my group members which made it very uncomfortable for us to take pictures and interview employees in a relaxed environment. In all honesty it was very difficult to do the field work that was assigned to us because most of the employees spoke English therefor it was challenge for me to understand what was going on in a conversation. To begin the comparison between my second essay and the site visit one thing I noticed was I wrote a lot about working in difficult situations. As I walked around La Tapachulteca I noticed there were…

While we were placed in the distribution room the workers were all in the check in areas. The community members were a mixture of inviting and unimpressed. Most of them were kind and only interacted with the volunteers when giving their cards for a towel or receiving any of the personal items. Others were split between not talking or interacting with the volunteers at all, and pushing for a full drawn conversation between the person and the volunteer. Many of them just wanted small conversations about life and events in the day, others were pushy and sarcastic as to why we were in fact volunteering.…

This week’s group dynamics class had us outside the “fishbowl” observing the other group. We were to make observations while the other group is attempting to build a tower which needed to be freestanding without any sort of support for a given time. I believe the length of time was about a minute, but then that is pretty long, and so, I am unsure as I can’t remember. Another crucial aspect was that the tower was to be built out of raw spaghetti and marshmallows.…

During my one visit to Appalachian State, I was able to to witness the overall beauty of the campus, as well as the ubiquitous sense of community. Moreover, the immense focus towards conservation stood out to me, as I have always been extremely passionate about preserving the environment. Additionally, I have only heard immensely positive feedback about the university, especially in regards to the forensic science program, which I intend to earn a degree from. Overall, the most valuable aspects of college to me are that they provide a strong sense of community, and actively strive towards conservation and professionalism, so I believe Appalachian State is the best school for me in these…
