In the book story “The Fall of the House of Usher” they are several characters stated such as the “sister” Madeline Usher, as well as the “brother/Childhood Friend Roderick Usher” but were they truly there of just a figment of the narrator's imagination due to a overusage of some sort of narcotic. “Which I can compare to no earthly sensation more properly than to the after-dream of the reveller upon opium --the bitter lapse into everyday life-the hideous dropping off of the reveller upon opium --the bitter lapse into everyday life” This is just one of the quotes used in ‘The House of Usher’ that shows they're some sort hallucinogenic effect happening inside the house. As they painted and read together listing, as if in a dream the story states, but in reality they were each overwhelmed by the effect leading to the narrator merely recalling the memory of his long lost childhood friend. “Do I not distinguish that heavy and horrible beating of her heart? MADMAN!" here he sprang furiously to his feet, and shrieked out his syllables, as if in the effort he were giving up his soul --"MADMAN! I TELL YOU THAT SHE NOW STANDS WITHOUT THE DOOR!" this entire story was certainly just a large hallucinating as he was recalling his old friend he was going through past memories smashed together into a sick and twisted thought that results in his mind being lost up until he imagines the house crashing down that is when his high begins to wear off.
After the house “falls” he once again becomes conscious and comes to the realization of how he has just been standing outside in the woods away from what was causing his high leading to the effect wearing off. Now there was a long tumultuous shouting sound like the voice of a thousand waters --and the deep and dank tarn at my feet closed sullenly and silently over the fragments of the "THE HOUSE OF USHER." Just past remnants of forgotten memories all being recollected until the final
