Fall Of Icarus Tone

Every human lives for themselves, because of this the pain and tragedy one person is facing goes unnoticed by the rest of the world.“The landscape with the fall of Icarus” a painting by Bruegel and “The landscape with the fall of Icarus” by Williams share many similarities like the tone, diction, painting details, and the treatment of Icarus. The tone in the painting and the poem are similar to one another. In the painting, the sun is rising and the harbor is peaceful which creates a joyful and pleasant tone. In the poem the author states “when Icarus fell it was spring” this being said creates a recrudescent tone because spring is the start of a new year and new beginnings. The poem continues to say “the whole pageantry of the year was awake and tingling” which reinforces the recrudescent and pleasant tone. In the painting Icarus is drowning and the bottom right corner which happens to be darker than the rest of the painting. The painter uses details to emphasize the good in the piece of artwork, like the cool blue-green water on a spring morning. But, the darkest part of the painting is where Icarus is drowning the bottom right corner of the painting! The artist does this because the farmer and the fishermen don’t notice, so he didn’t want his audience to notice Icarus either. The poet wrote “unsignificantly off the coast” he spelled insignificantly wrong because people would notice the spelling error before realizing what is happening to Icarus. Afterwards the poet wrote “a splash quite unnoticed this was Icarus drowning”, “a splash quite unnoticed” translates to a death going unnoticed. The details in the painting and the diction in the poem are used to show that nobody notices Icarus and how it ends in a tragic
