Fall Dance Performance Experience

Two weeks ago, I visited HHC Ybor Main Stage Theatre where the Fall Dance Concert was performed. Usually, I hardly drove to Ybor at night, but I was lucky to be at HCC Ybor on time. The parking was dark and full, so I had to drive several rounds to find the spot. However, I think Fall Dance Concert was worth the drive. This was my first experience about theatre since I came to US, and I really enjoyed it. When I first came to the theatre, I was handed a flyer where all the performances were listed. I think it was so helpful for me to follow along the performances as well as expecting what would come next. My seat was on the left of the stage, and two rows away from the last row. At first, I thought I would not have good views of the stage. However, the stage was proscenium arch stage, I could see everything that happened on stage regardless my seating position. Also, the Main Theatre gave me the feeling of being so close to the stage to the point I could literally hear every performers’ footsteps as they were moving. Most of the time, the stage was very dark; light source came from one direction, and it usually focused on one or two performers at a time. There was also an apron added to the stage, where gained the intimacy between the performers and audiences. Each dance performance’s running time was prettily short, and there was curtain call in every single one. I can tell that curtain calls were the time that the stage had lit up the most. After each dance, the curtain closed, and there was couple of minutes break before moving to …show more content…
More than studying materials and tests, I had the opportunity to find entertaining from theatre during the semester, which I would hardly did it personally if I was not introduced through the course. Last but not least, I had learned that there were many different ways to enjoy entertaining activities inexpensively while studying in the United

All I can say is, the story had somewhat of a quicker pace and sometimes harder to follow and small details could easily be missed, and the lighting was a tiny bit distracting when it flashed across the stage quickly. The use of sound effects was used to signify different things that caught the attention of the viewers and really added a special touch to the play. The play showcased beautiful and stunning singing which made the play more authentic, combined with the elaborate dances numbers truly made the show breathtaking and…

As the curtains went up, the audience was present with a metal structure that was the bottom of the Eiffel tower. This beautiful metal structure made me only excited to see what the rest of the sets would look like. The lighting right off the bat was extremely elegant, being that the majority of the lights had a shade of purple. This set the feel of the Parisian world that the audience would be taken on. Before I saw the show, I imagined the stage being much bigger than it actually was in reality.…

The Cadillac Palace Theatre, in Chicago, is a proscenium theatre due to it utilizing a frame-like structure. The theatre itself is elaborate due to its unique design and performance tactics used on stage. It may also be considered modern, lighting up the entire street at night with its illuminating yellow lights. But, as for the stage in the theatre, I feel as if it is not large enough in consideration of the sheer size of the theatre. It may be hard for some individuals to observe what is being performed during certain scenes.…

Upon first entering the Caine Performance Hall, my tickets were quickly taken and I was ushered into a moderately sized room and asked to find a seat. The walls within the room were covered with elaborate panelling - no doubt to improve the acoustics. There were 4 sections of seats and since I was a little late I took a seat in the back, however, because of the small scale of the performance room, I didn’t feel as if I was far from the stage. When the performers came out, the whole production felt very intimate which helped me to really feel and attempt to understand the complex music. The average age of others attending the concert was between 35-60, there were only a few younger people in attendance.…

The space that the show was performed in is not what most people think of when going to the theater. The director created a black box style theater by moving the audience in two different configurations throughout the performance. The director also use all the doors in the room as entrances and exits, as opposed to only using the wings. Since the space was so large and open, the director made a smart decision to have actors and stage crew move slowly in and out of the stage to make the scene changes less distracting and seamless. In addition to the scene changes, the director used light to the performances advantage.…

Over the centuries, theatre conventions evolved from the highly presentational performances of the Greeks to the extravagance of Elizabethan productions and eventually conglomerated to produce contemporary theatre. The University Playhouse’s performance of Acting: The First Six Lessons expressed this conglomeration of Greek and Elizabethan conventions through elements of presentational theatre, a non-localized set, and a supporting cast that functioned similar to a chorus or ensemble. This performance also altered conventions through the addition of female actors, use of representational aspects, adaption of the functions of the chorus or ensemble, and lack of a raised stage. In the following sections, I will discuss the adoption and adaptation…

The performances were given in semi-circular auditoria cut into hillsides, capable of seating anywhere between 10,000–20,000 people. This derelict stage consisted of three major parts, a dancing floor (orchestra), a dressing room, and scene-building area. This scene building area was otherwise known as the Skene was used as a "backstage" area where actors could change their costumes and masks,as well as serving to represent the location and backdrop of the plays. Typically, there were several doors in the Skene that led out onto the orchestra, allowing actors to enter and exit. Since the words were the most important part, good acoustics and clear delivery were…

In the Fall Dance Concert, I noticed many strengths and weaknesses of my performances, but I also noticed my growth as a dancer. Even between two different days of performances, they were both distinct in their own ways. In the freshman dance, I noticed that my beginning coupe turns, I tended to falter and stumble on the transitions in between them, but I was able to recover from those mistakes. On Thursday I saw that my turn out on various steps was getting lost, but on Friday it was much better. In regards to the group portion of the dance, my timing on various steps was off both nights, especially the arch back (Bella's move) and the shoulder roll (Leeanna's move).…

The formation of dance has lived on this world for many generations as we continue to pass through history. When I went to the wonderful performance at Pierce College I experienced a whole new perspective on dancing. The concert had many types of students performing mixed dance projects of all types like solos and duets. There was an average size of one to eight dancers per project which made it the ideal size for the concert. I really enjoyed the creativity and effort put into this performance.…
