About one month ago I attended a concert here in the Wartburg Chapel. The concert consisted of two groups, the Iowa State women's choir and The Wartburg Choir. I sat in the upper level of the chapel and it sounded absolutely incredible. I was extremely impressed of ho both of the choirs blended incredibly well and always sounded in tune and on pitch. The Wartburg Choir’s “Ain’t no grave” sent goosebumps to my spine with their unbelievable musicianship and facial expression.…
After the last concert I went to, I came into this with an open mind. In class one day I remember my professor talking about how this concert would have visual arts, and how it would be a great performance to attend. That right there boosted my expectations even higher, and was my…
Twenty-One Pilots is a rap and alternative band who recently broke out with a big album called “Blurryface”. Their style of music is so unlike any other group that they were put in the genre of alternative because even though its rap, it is not just the average rap. Some songs are slower, and they don’t always rhyme. This makes them unique causing them to stand out among other groups. Their songs have a deeper meaning than most and more people can relate to them and that is why this album had such a big impact and lead them to a world tour.…
As stated before the concert was not what I was expecting. I enjoyed it more than I believed I would, it certainly isn’t my new favorite type of music, but understanding aspects of it gave me a greater appreciation for the music and the musicians. Things such as a recognizable basso ostinato set by the base player were a familiar starting point. When the soloists needed an accompaniment the bassist varied the continuous rhythm to compliment what the soloist was playing, otherwise, the beat was…
Every day, I try to listen to a new piece of music. Whether it be a string group, unaccompanied choir, or even a percussion consort, I believe that by doing this, so much can be learned from just listening. About the mid-month of July, I came across this piece of music. I thought it was extremely fun and quirky at the same time! I had continued to listen to it, read some background information on the piece, and do a small amount of study on the work.…
It was very quiet and everyone was extremely respectful. I rarely even saw someone whisper to another. Once the performance ended the last memorable demeanor was how long the audience clapped for. We applauded the performers in a standing ovation and the clapping lasted for what seemed like a couple of minutes. The slightest movement or sight of the performers would cause the clapping to intensify.…
On Sunday June 12th, I attended the Oklahoma Community Orchestra Concert. This event took place at the Oklahoma Christian University Pavilion. The Concert started at 7:30pm and it was free for everyone.this was my first concert in a long time, since middle school. I got there exactly at 7:30pm, which made it hard for me to get a seat and a clear view of the concert. There were a lot of people there which meant that this was going to be a very good concert.…
For my concert critique, I went to Jason Terry’s Doctoral Piano Recital on Tuesday, December 1st at the School of Music in room 206. Because Terry was able to pick the pieces he played, he picked a range of different pieces to emphasize his wide range of talent. He included older and modern pieces including Bach, Godowsky, Balakirev, Zorn, and Liszt. The first piece he played was “Prelude & Fugue, BWV 872” composed by Bach. I was a little unsure about the nature and form of this piece because it was unlike some of the more structured pieces we listen to in class.…
Although the concert is not like other concert that formal and solemn there are many kids in the concert also, I really enjoy the concert and I feel very relaxed during the concert. It is a really awesome music concert for…
When you are on stage singing and dancing, you feel like you own the world. With show choir, you it’s not the place you get, it is the experience, friends, and the new people you meet that counts. And last Saturday, the show must have gone on. That is when you see the true connection between show choirs because during our performance, the power went out! And that’s when we put on the edge of glory because we couldn’t see it at all.…
On March 9, 2018, I attended the Redemption Praise and Worship Gospel Concert. This event was located at the Redemption Church in Greenville, SC. This event was approximately 3.5 hours long. During this event the church had several different gospel performers. There was some musical theater performance, gospel rock, gospel rap, a lot of singing and a live band.…
It was the night of September 28th and I could not sleep. I was so nervous because the next morning I had my audition for North Carolina High-School Honors Choir. Although I practiced for weeks and sang for my chorus teacher countless times, I never knew of what could have happened in my five minute audition. I would have to warm up and sing an excerpt of the audition piece “Sing Ye to the Lord.” Then I would have 60 seconds to study an 8-measure line of sight singing.…

We filed onto the risers, our stage, and my choir director started talking to the choir, and then the other soloist in the choir and I sang for the night. As I and the other soloist made sure to frantically flip through the solos to attempt to make sure we remembered the lines, the red looming curtains opened. The distant stage lights were shining down upon me and the rest of my group of singers with hundreds of judging eyes of parents, friends, teachers, and other important people. The pressure was on us; we represented our school and the abilities of our choir.…
