Though, even with my not-so-jaw-dropping kickoff to my hiatus from school, I managed to have a phenomenal time. From hanging out with friends to trying paddle boarding for the first time, my much needed vacation was one I'll never forget. When I wasted the first few days of fall break in my room either on my phone or watching Netflix, I was ecstatic to get a text from a friend inviting me to spend the night. The ability to experience pain and suffering are universally and innately part of human ideology. Margaret Lock and Nancy Scheper-Hughes situate human affliction as mutually constructed by biological, social, and cultural understandings of the body. Both anthropologists advocate for a comprehensive perspective regarding illness and disease in which knowledge of and explanatory models referring to an individual’s illness are fixed on a greater social, political, and cosmic influences. Apparent identical life events can be explained by purely contradictory understandings of the body; pain, suffering and death simply cannot be explained in a manner that lacks the wider context of culture and society.…

Over Fall Break, on October 15th, I watched a video called “Poverty, Incorporated”. The video demonstrated different challenges from current charities and how one can promote alternative solutions to the world in an effective way. While watching the documentary of the film made viewers think of some insight on how one can help or hurt poverty through charities or companies. Throughout the film it discusses several ideas of how poverty can be used essentially for money. This means that one can try to give viewers a view of what actually happens to when people donate to charities or NGO’s (non-governmental organizations).…

Hi Ms. Pierce, Hope you had a wonderful break and a nice day, The word I would use to describe my break is deciphering because I got a break from dance and school. For example, I was able to sleep to try to avenge the early wakings during school days and early dance practices. In addition to that, I had nothing to be concerned about. Having a break from both school and dance gave me time to think about myself and what I wanted for my future; besides, I was able to unwind. The time I had was crucial to me because sometimes in the middle of all the activities in the year I have no time to think.…

Fall break is a time for us as students to relieve ourselves from the stresses of school. It’s a time to be with family and friends and to enjoy delicious food. It can also be a time to reflect on how psychology is in everything we do. Our motives, actions, and feelings are all brought back to psychology. Over this break, I made note of a few instances that could easily relate to the science.…

Presentation and Explanation of Concept to be Investigated One of the beginning cornerstones in this devising theatre challenge was the concept of fractured narratives, referring to the idea that a story can be told through non complete chunks or scenes which, when strung together, convey a story. Fractured narratives can be used in several ways: for example, scenes where multiple conversations are being held at once may use fractured narratives in jumping between conversations, without including context or the full exchange between two people, but grabbing just enough information from it that the audience is able to fill in the blanks themselves. Fractured narratives can also be used in short theatrical pieces that need to cover a long span…
