Faking It Is Fatigue

Rick Warren stated “Wearing a mask wears you out. Faking it is fatiguing. The most exhausting activity is pretending to be what you know you’re arent.” This quote is basically saying if you talk differently, dress to impress, it will exhaust you, because you’re trying your hardest to be somebody you know you’re not.

First and Foremost, don’t fake who you really are. You might put different clothing on for a guy but he might like who you were before you tried to change who you were. If the new guy likes the new you and he wants to be with you, don’t leave your close friends for a guy you only knew for about half of a month. Just be yourself, if you like tall boots with big furry jackets and a hat, then wear it. Don’t wear something

When Hillenbrand set out to write about Seabiscuit’s story, she initially intended for it to be an article for a magazine, but it turned into something much bigger. She became entranced in the story, researching and writing for years, pushing through the miserableness she felt because of her Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (Hillenbrand, 2003). The lengths she went to in order to provide a factual, well-written account of the horse, and the men who stood beside him, proves how important this story was to her. When Hillenbrand’s illness seemed to completely take over her life, she found something that gave her the strength to do more than just sit around and wait for the disease to get better or worse. She made it her mission to tell the story of Seabiscuit,…

Favorite parts: My favorite parts were actually Clay’s narrative. I found it unique, from a storytelling perspective, to have Hannah’s story portrayed in the context of Clay’s. Sometimes, it would seem that the lines would blur about whose story this actually was; in the end it is Clay’s. Clay becomes so engulfed in Hannah’s story, this girl that he had an emotional attachment to, who is now gone. The prime example of Clay’s immersion in Hannah’s world comes when Clay is at Monet’s, a favorite hangout place of Hannah’s.…

When reading James Baldwin’s speech, it is obviously shown that Baldwin believes strongly that people decide who you are according to the way you talk. Although people may try to have an open-mind about others, usually people judge others without thinking. James Baldwin supports this idea: “It is the most vivid and crucial key to identity”. Believe it or not, the way you talk does say a lot about you as a person. While speaking, one wrong thing said may give the wrong impression.…

In his 1977 essay, “In Defense of Masks”, Kenneth Gergen introduces the concept of multiple personas and personalities as being ‘masks’. In his psychological and sociological research, Gergen concludes that people do not have a coherent sense of identity and need masks to be happy, healthy, and successful in society. I agree with Gergen because different situations call for different personalities; such as acting professional for a job interview, being lively with friends, or maintaining a perfect image of yourself for other. Most jobs call for a certain degree of professionalism. People put on masks while at work to give off an impression of uniformity.…

Literary Analysis “It seems the more we talk the less I have to say, let's put our differences aside, I wanted to make you proud but our differences got in the way” is being sung in the opening strophe of the song Good Enough by Lifehouse. This opening part of the song shows a strong emottion that not only teeenagers, but also adults suffer from, even more, they want to prove to someone that is very important to them that they're more than what they really think they are. The song says that it is sometimes impossible to be anything but yourself. Most people have an overwhelming amount of anxiety from demanding themselves to be someone that they are not, likewise; this sinking feeling comes from trying to make someone proud that they care and love about most.…
