Fake Situations

When asking an elder how they met their significant other, many answers range from meeting in a social setting, work, or even church. If you were to ask couples who married from 2005 to 2014, over one third of them will admit to meeting online (AFP RELAXNEWS). Relationships and friendships are now being created through common friends on Facebook, or even random strangers met online. There is a drastic difference between the friends you meet in person, and friends you acquire over social media. With the Internet being in the palm of our hands, it can create a handy and easy tool for meeting lifelong friends and soul mates, but on the same point can lead to both dangerous and fake situations. Never going to meet the person can be both dangerous, and fake. First of all with the dangerous, if you were to meet someone offline and have a random date, you have no idea what this person is like, let alone who they are. Over the years, sex offenders have been using dating sites and social media to hook up. This is a major issue with finding a real relationship. This has made people more hesitant when meeting in real life. Moving onto the fake aspect, there is actually a term used for false identities online. It is called cat fishing. Cat fishing is someone who lures another person by using a fake persona. A lot of the times it is a person pretending to be the opposite gender. There is even a popular television show all related to this. I have watched a few episodes, and a bunch of the time the person being tricked ends up wounded and humiliated for being played.
