Not that Angus's life post-conversion is without trials and tragedies, though. Angus had to endure all the pain from not having saved his nephew from falling off a tractor. Angus struggled and even questioned God for the unanswered prayer of saving the child of his brother, but soon Angus realizes that there are some things that catch you off guard in circumstances, and that he should stop blaming himself for the terrible fate of his nephew. It is clear that Angus experienced a crisis of faith, but in holding firm led his family into great spiritual growth.
The last scene of the movie features Angus speaking in a stadium, and in high spirits asks his fellow farmers to plant potatoes, despite the fact that potatoes greatly need water and it rarely rains in Zulu. After four months of doubts and uncertainty that the potatoes would grow, Angus, together with Simeon, decided that it was time. And sure enough, they were able to harvest large, floury potatoes.
This is a very touching and moving story of one man’s trials which try his faith. Angus is a struggling man who fights his own inner demons with his farm in Africa and family until he makes a life changing resolution. He turns his life around when he gives
