A quote that stood out to me while reading Of Mice and Men is found page 74. It states, “Nobody never gets to heaven, and nobody gets no land. It’s just in their head.” (John Steinbeck, 74) This comment struck close to home for me, challenging my religion, and things that I hold dear to me. Upon thinking more about the statement I figured out that it isn’t about faith at all, Mr. Steinbeck wanted to connect to something, that people dedicate their whole lives to, or believe in full-heartedly. Linking this back to the story, George and Lennie are so focused on having land that they can call their own, that they are blind to see just how unrealistic their “plan” actually is. And that “It’s all in their head.”
